Mr. Mayes is Founding Partner of international management firm Vendange Partners LLP in the Vancouver and San Francisco Bay areas. Vendange Partners’ current projects include forming an international investment partnership with European and U.S. partners and capitalizing on emerging new opportunities in Vancouver BC. Past clients include New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, Korean IT Promotional Agency, MISecurity (Korea), Aptilo (Sweden).

David served on the 2012 Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Multidisciplinary Assessment Committee for Canadian innovation grants worth $400M. He continues to serve on an ongoing basis, as a CFI Expert Reviewer, most recently in IoT and renewable energy storage. The University of British Columbia (UBC) has also asked him to act as an internal Lead Reviewer for CFI Innovation Grant applicants. Mr. Mayes was appointed an Adjunct Professor in entrepreneurship, international management, communication, negotiation, & strategic management with UBC’s Faculty of Management, and Master’s degree program.

In California, he served as Director of New Zealand Trade & Industry’s (NZTE) Silicon Valley Beachhead technology incubator, Redwood City, California, providing mentorship, offices, and services for New Zealand startup companies.  Mr. Mayes also served on the NZTE Advisory Board, chaired by Dr. David Teece, Professor of Global Business at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.

Mr. Mayes was founder and spokesperson for the Intel, Microsoft and HP/Compaq ITU initiative for high-speed consumer “universal” DSL Internet access. Mr. Mayes has led a number of other major industry initiatives: Vendors’ ISDN Association, and V.92 modem consortium. Mr. Mayes joined with Microsoft in the IETF security protocol PPTP, creating secure “virtual private networks” across the Internet.

David began his career at Intel Corporation in California, Oregon, and Europe. He left Intel while based at Intel’s European HQ, to form his first entrepreneurial venture, 01 Computers Group Ltd., based in London. 01 Corporate clients included the BBC, British Telecom and Imperial Chemical Industries. Recently, Mr. Mayes was Vice President of Business Development at P-Cube, iBEAM Broadcasting, and Director of Business Development at Ascend Communications. Mr. Mayes was directly involved in a variety of multinational venture investments, public, private mergers, acquisitions, corporate partnerships, and sales, including Ascend’s acquisitions of NetStar and Cascade Communications.

Mr. Mayes is a citizen of France and a francophone.

Mr. Mayes has been appointed to the 2012 Canada Foundation for Innovation Multidisciplinary Assessment Committee.  He was an official Intervener with the British Columbia Utilities Commission, and he sat on the FortisBC PowerSense Advisory Committee.  David was a founder and spokesperson for the Compaq, Intel, and Microsoft led initiative for high speed, low-cost consumer DSL Internet access.  He also participated with Microsoft in the development of the IETF security protocols PPTP, a key enabler for creating secure “virtual private networks” across the Internet.
